World Party In Perth

Here we are in Perth for the Steely Dan/World Party concert at the Sandalford Winery in the Swan Valley. I was going to miss the gig at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne next week so I used the frequent flyer points to come over here. World Party, of course, provided me with one of the best club gigs I have ever seen at the Continental Cafe way back in 1993. I won’t repeat the story……it has become the stuff of legend.

The weather is decidedly damp and I hope the gig goes ahead. It was 14C when we arrived – not like sunny Melbourne where it hardly ever rains.

Went for dinner tonight at the Rose & Crown hotel in Guildford – said to be the oldest pub in WA – and maybe in Australia (but I find that hard to believe). Perth is booming, traffic everywhere, suburbs sprawling into the horizon. I have two nephews over here who seem to be doing well and don’t seem in a hurry to go back home. In fact, my first real job was working for Western Mining out at Kambalda but, as they say, that is another story!

Tonight Port Adelaide beat the Eagles. I am not sure which team I dislike more. It is a pity they both could not lose! Having said that, I suppose Hawthorn will lose tomorrow.

I will report in on the Dan/Party gig tomorrow night.
