Soulful Waterboys For Bluesfest

Byron’s Bluesfest, held over the 5 Day Easter Long Weekend from Thursday April 2 to Monday April 6 has added another list of artists, including Mike Scott’s rejuvenated Waterboys, to its ever-growing festival bill. The 26th Annual Bluesfest will be held at its custom built event site at Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm just outside Byron Bay.

The recent line-up of The Waterboys has included legendary Muscle Shoals bassist David Hood, along with guitarist Zach Ernst (formerly of Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears), drummer Ralph Salmins a. The new album Modern Blues is due for release on January 20.

Also joining the line-up will be Irish singer Hozier, along with Switchfoot, Hunter Hayes, Fly My Pretties, Music Maker Presents Super Chikan And Vasti Jackson, Diesel, Jeff Lang, Phil Wiggins & Dom Turner, Watussi, Nikki Hill and The Rumjacks.

“We have such an exciting sixth announcement in what is a watershed year for Bluesfest,” said Festival Director Peter Noble. “A genuine new superstar of Blues & Roots music – Hozier, Celtic legends The Waterboys, New Zealand’s all-star music collective Fly My Pretties on their first ever Australian festival appearances, lots of great new Blues artists, and to top it off – Country Music’s hottest new artist, Hunter Hayes.”

New tours have also been added to the 2015 Bluesfest Touring season including Donavon Frankenreiter on a 17 date tour with a focus on surf towns of country and regional Australia, SOJA + Blue King Brown in an exclusive Brisbane show, JJ Grey & Mofro Sydney sideshow (his only Australian performance outside of Bluesfest) and Dispatch performing their first ever Australian headline shows.

A number of shows have also been added to some already announced tours;

The Gipsy Kings have added a Gold Coast show to their 25th Anniversary world tour and will be performing at the Jupiters Hotel & Casino at the Gold Coast, Queensland on Sunday 5th April 2015.

Jurassic 5 have added an Adelaide show to the Australian leg of their tour and will be bringing their soulful and socially aware hip hop tracks to HQ in Adelaide on Thursday 2nd April 2015. They have also added a show at Waves in Wollongong on Friday 27 March 2015.

Michael Franti & Spearhead have added a show at the Odeon Theatre, Hobart on Friday 3rd April 2015.

Nigerian musician Keziah Jones has been added as the very special guest for Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue’s Sydney show at the Factory Theatre on Wed 1st April 2015 and Melbourne show at the Corner on Sunday 5th April 2015. Tickets are already on sale.
