Charleston, North Carolina duo Shovels & Rope (Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent) have announced their first Australian tour – ‘Two for the Road’- for March 2015 with co-headliner Shakey Graves (Alejandro Rose-Garcia).

Tickets will go on sale at 10am on Thursday, December 4.

My Live Nation members can secure tickets during the pre-sale beginning 10am today, Monday, December 1.

Shovels & Rope – originally formed when Mississippi-born, Nashville-bred Cary Ann Hearst met Texas-born, Colorado-raised Michael Trent – released their debut breakthrough album O’Be Joyful in 2012, winning Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2013 Americana Music Awards. The Ballad of Shovels & Rope, a documentary about their recent touring has been showing on the film festival circuit this past year.

Last August saw the release of the duo’s second album, Swimmin’ Time, now available in Australia.

Accompanying Shovels & Rope on tour will be Shakey Graves – stage name of Alejandro Rose-Garcia who began making music as part of New York City’s “anti-folk” scene.

“I have always wanted to see Australia and sort of figured it wouldn’t happen… But to get to not only see Australia AND tour it while playing music with one of my favorite bands on the planet, seems like a waking dream,” said Rose-Garcia.

His self-released 2011 debut album, Roll the Bones brought national acclaim and three years later, still ranks near the top of Bandcamp’s digital best-seller charts. America’s NPR Music named him as one of the ten artists music fans “should’ve known in 2012,” describing him as “astonishing…unclassifiably original. And frighteningly good.”

His new album, And the War Came is due for an Australian release in February through Dualtone / Cooking Vinyl Australia.
