RockWiz returns to SBS Television in Australia on May 30 for a thirteenth series of just six episodes, all themed. This year each show will focus on a specific decade from the ‘50s to the 2000s. Songs, artists, riffs and questions will all relate to the decade in question.
As usual, Julia Zemiro will host the series assisted by her sidekick Brian Nankervis. Guest artists so far confirmed include Paul Kelly, Julia Stone, Connie Mitchell, Vance Joy, Col Joye, John Butler, Emma Donovan, Normie Rowe and Kate Ceberano.
For the first time in the show’s 10 year history, guitarist and keyboard maestro James Black will not be joining Peter Luscombe and Mark Ferrie, for this series. (Black is concentrating on his own musical projects – recording and producing records, although he will continue to play in the RocKwiz Orkestra for live events). Black’ substitutes will be Even’s Ashley Naylor on guitar and Triple J Unearthed artist, Clio Renner, on keyboards.
The six special themed episodes were filmed in front of a live audience at the show’s home, The Gershwin Room at St Kilda’s Esplanade Hotel.
Fans of the long-running show include Billy Bragg, Courtney Barnett and Amanda Palmer.
“Rockwiz is a lot of fun,” says Bragg. “You get to goof around in the quiz and do a live duet with someone interesting. And they give you free beer. Long may they run.”
