UK singer songwriter Nick Lowe has released the year’s first Christmas album: Quality Street: A Seasonal Selection For All The Family. The album includes 12 tracks, with a new song by Ron Sexsmith (‘Hooves On The Roof) written specially for the project.
Other songs on the album include Roger Miller’s ‘Old Toy Trains,’ , Roy Wood’s ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Day’ and the Boudleaux Bryant song ‘Chrismas Can’t Be Far Away.’ There are also two new Lowe songs (‘I Was Born In Bethlehem’ and ‘Christmas At The Airport’), as well as a co-write with Ry Cooder (‘A Dollar Short Of Happy’).
In addition, Lowe performs chesnuts such as ‘Silent Night,’ ‘Rise Up Shepherd’ and ‘Children Go Where I Send Thee’ (though he claims that the album is a ‘sleigh bell-free zone’)
Lowe produced the album with long-time colleagues Neil Brockbank and Robert Treherne and recorded in London with his backing band: keyboardist Geraint Watkins, guitarist Johnny Scott, bassist Matt Radford and drummer Treherne.
Lowe has also certainly got into the Christmas marketing spirit. Extras for those ordering online include a holiday greeting card set, a snow Globe and exclusive Nick Lowe wrapping paper!
