In surprise news it appears that Crowded House leader Neil Finn has joined Fleetwood Mac and that the band have ‘sacked’ songwriter and guitarist Lindsey Buckingham.
Buckingham first joined the band in 1975 and then re-joined them in 1997. Reports suggest that the reason for his current departure was a disagreement over an upcoming tour.
According to a band statement, former Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell will also be joining the band for the upcoming US tour.
“Snow warnings for parts of the country, the mystery of Stonehenge solved and yes I’ve joined Fleetwood Mac,” tweeted Finn.
Drummer Mick Fleetwood said that the band “has always been about… a unique blend of talents.”
“We jammed with Mike and Neil and the chemistry really worked and let the band realise that this is the right combination to go forward with in Fleetwood Mac style,” he said.
