Melbourne singer songwriter Courtney Barnett has capped off an amazing year by dominating this year’s ARIA Awards nominations with eight award nominations, including Album Of The Year and Best Female Artist. Barnett won an Artisan Award for Album Cover of The Year for Sometimes I Sit and Think ,and Sometimes I Just Sit.

“I didn’t think that I would be winning an ARIA for my artwork that I drew with a felt-tip pen on a piece of printer paper,” Barnett said when she accepted the award.

On her website she added: “I won an ARIA! For best cover art. thank you Stevo & Anne mestitz & Brett whiteley & my dad for all the drawing inspirations.”

Sydney electronic duo Hermitude and Melbourne musician Vance Joy have received seven nominations each and will be vying for Album Of The Year, Best Independent Release and Best Australian Live Act. Tame Impala were nominated for six awards and frontman Kevin Parker won two Artisan ARIA Awards for Producer and Engineer Of The Year for the band’s album Currents.

The nominees were announced alongside the winners of the ARIA Artisan and Fine Arts Awards in a ceremony in Sydney on Wednesday. The Awards ceremony will take place next month at Sydney’s Star Casino.
