ARIA 2014 Winners

Sia and Iggy Azalea, Australian singers who have enjoyed huge international success in the past year were winners at last night’s Australian Record Industry Association Awards in Sydney.

Sia, who was unable to attend, was the big winner picking up gongs for Best Female Artist, Album of The Year and Best Pop Release for 1000 Forms Of Fear (in previously announced awards she had also won best video prize for ‘Chandelier’).

Nominated in three categories, Dan Sultan won Rock Album of The Year for Blackbird while Chet Faker was named best male artist and his album was the Best Independent Release.

Veterans Neil Finn and Paul Kelly, won the best adult contemporary album award for Goin’ Your Way. The John Butler Trio won the Best Blues & Roots Award for Flesh & Blood. Kasey Chambers won the award for Best Country Album.

Denis Handlin, head of Sony Music  was named an industry icon, and Countdown host, Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum, was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

Brian Wise

Brian Wise was the Editor of Addicted To Noise‘s Australian site from 1997 – 2002. The site won two ONYA Awards as Best Online Music Magazine in 1999 & 2000. He has also been Editor since its reincarnation in 2013. He also presents the weekly music interview program Off The Record on 102.7 Triple R-FM (rrr.org.au) in Melbourne. It is networked to 45+ stations across Australia on the Community Radio Network and is a four-time winner of the Best Music Program Award from the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia. In 2012, it was nominated as a finalist in the Excellence in Music Programming category. Brian was also the Founding Editor & Publisher of Rhythms Magazine and is now its Senior Contributing Editor.
